General assessment, individual therapy, and professional consultation
General Assessment
A general assessment includes gathering general information about your background, medical and mental health history, and gradually becomes more focused on clinical specific symptoms that brought you to therapy. A general assessment is for people wondering if they have a disorder, such as OCD or an anxiety disorder, and informs the choice in treatment. All of my therapy work starts with a general assessment, but I also do a standalone general assessment for people who want a better understanding of any potential diagnosis.
Please note: this is not a formal or comprehensive assessment. The focus of a general assessment is on mood, anxiety, and OCD symptoms with no exploration of personality disorders or neurodevelopmental conditions like ADHD or Autism. If you are looking for a more formal, comprehensive assessment to explore other conditions (i.e., personality disorders, ADHD, Autism), or that includes cognitive/intelligence testing, I’d be happy to provide you with the names of experts in this area.
Individual Therapy
My therapeutic approach is collaborative, neurodiversity-affirming, culturally aware, strengths-based, and informed by evidence-based treatment. As I typically see clients with OCD and related disorders, anxiety-related disorders, and PTSD, which are all avoidance-based conditions, I primarily use CBT and exposure therapy (i.e., ERP, PE) in my practice. I also utilize ACT when needed.
I see adult clients virtually who are located in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
Professional Consultation
I provide professional consultation on ERP for registered professionals (fellow psychologists, provisionals, psychological associates, and psychotherapists) who have already completed training in ERP and are wanting to refine their ERP skills for working with clients with OCD. We will discuss your specific cases of OCD, I will answer your questions, and give you clinical guidance and feedback on your OCD conceptualizations and implementation of ERP.

The difference is mainly in education, training received, and scope of practice.
Psychologists hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and/or a master’s degree (M.A., M.Sc., or M.C.), have extensive training in research and/or psychological practice, and are able to assess, diagnose, and treat psychological disorders. They cannot prescribe medication. There are many types of psychologists that will differ in their approach and professional activities depending on their branch of psychology. For instance, a clinical psychologist is interested in whether a client has a serious mental illness as this will directly inform the treatment they provide. Psychologists who practice from a clinical framework gather information, provide a diagnosis (including doing differential diagnosis and identifying rule out conditions), and do evidence-based treatment for serious mental health disorders. By comparison, a counselling psychologist is more client-centered in their approach and views common factors in therapy (e.g., therapeutic relationship, client motivation, client expectations of therapy, and client strengths and skills) to be the main drivers of client change. They tend to focus on helping clients cope with life/work-related stressors and mental health concerns. They may or may not choose to diagnose or treat severe mental disorders.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who went to medical school and completed further training in residency. They are able to prescribe medication. Psychiatrists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of severe mental health disorders. Both clinical psychologists and psychiatrists tend to work with clients with severe mental illness.
Counsellors (such as a CCC) typically provide guidance or support for “developmental issues, addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, developing personal insights and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others” (CPA, 2025). Counsellors do not tend to work with those experiencing severe mental illness.
